Iwawa Rehabilitation Center is one of three rehabilitation centers of the National Rehabilitation Service. IRC islocated on Iwawa Island of Kivu Lake, in Boneza Sector of Rutsiro District, Western Province.
IRC was established by the Government of Rwanda in 2010 with a mandate to rehabilitate male delinquents of over 18 years old who exhibit deviant behaviours. It is established by the Presidential Order N° 99/01 of 02/06/2018.
The main mission of Iwawa Rehabilitation Centre is to rehabilitate male delinquents from across the country so that they stop drug consumption or any other deviant behaviour, equip them with vocational and hands on skills that help them integrate in the community and participate in the social- economic and political development of Rwanda.
date, IRC has the capacity to accommodate 4,000 male delinquents per year but activities to upgrade it so that it accommodates 6,000 delinquents per year are underway.
We Are Fighting Drug Use Through Gospel Music and Youth Testimonies
We campaign against drug use among the youth of Rwanda through the Iwawa Rehabilitation Center. Music and youth testimonials help youth to focus on new habits and activities that enable them to avoid drug use on their journey to a brighter future.
During 2019, Melody of New Hope began Iwawa visits. Our projects there support youth by teaching basic small business skills. MNH also helped purchase sewing machines for Iwawa Rehabilitation Center students who completed sewing courses.
We seek donors to help us continue this work because we have seen the change and hope it brings to the youths benefit from it.
Together, our goal will be achieved. Click here to donate our works.
“Tomorrow Begins Today” is the motto that captures our vision for the Melody of New Hope [MNH] mission. Its origin is in the Book of Joshua (4:9): “After crossing the River Jordan, God commanded Joshua to set up twelve stones collected from the middle of the River Jordan where the priests who carried the Ark of the Covenant had stood.”
These stones were to be a memorial for what God had done in liberating the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt. They would manifest the goodness of the Lord and show how merciful and gracious He was to them. The stones set up by today’s generation for future generations were God’s reminder to Joshua that ‘tomorrow begins today’.
