In a continued effort to promote a drug-free lifestyle among young people, Melody of New Hope (MNH) hosted a significant “Fight Against Drug Use” campaign at ERM Hope Tvet School on October 17, 2024. With over 300 students in attendance, the campaign highlighted the rising concern of drug use among youth in the community and aimed to educate, inspire, and empower students to make healthy choices.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The event opened with a series of performances by students, who used songs and poetry to creatively express the dangers and negative consequences of drug use. The artistic presentations captured the emotional struggles that come with addiction and the importance of staying drug-free, creating a powerful atmosphere of awareness among the attendees.<\/p>\n

One of the most moving moments of the campaign was the testimony delivered by Alain Nshimiyimana, the founder of Steps Initiative. Alain, a former drug user, shared his personal story of addiction and recovery, urging students to seek help and stay away from harmful substances. His inspiring journey resonated deeply with the students, emphasizing that recovery is possible with community support.<\/p>\n

Keynote speakers included Emmanuel Sitaki, founder of ERM Hope Tvet School, and Naomi Uwurukundo, a drug counselor who provided professional insights into the psychological aspects of drug use and prevention. They, along with Melody of New Hope\u2019s representative Jimmy Ndabaramiye, stressed the critical role of education and community in fighting against drug abuse.<\/p>\n

“This campaign is more than just a one-day event; it\u2019s a reminder that we all have a responsibility to support and guide our youth toward healthy, drug-free lives,” said Ndabaramiye, reflecting on the event\u2019s success.<\/p>\n

The campaign also featured interactive Q&A sessions where students engaged with the speakers, asking for advice on how to handle peer pressure and what steps to take if someone is already involved with drugs. This dialogue provided a platform for students to express their concerns and receive support in a safe, open environment.<\/p>\n

As part of the closing recommendations, MNH called for continued education on the dangers of drug use and the establishment of peer support groups within the school. The organization also encouraged partnerships with local organizations to expand outreach efforts.<\/p>\n
